if you're anything like me, you are dazed and confused that the first month of 2016 is already behind us. january, a month that is usually slower than molasses in itself, is over and done with.
i didn't even realize it until the other day when i was in the nate berkus home decor section of target looking (unnecessarily) at desk calendars. i stared at the blank "january" page i realized that i would immediately have to tear off that first sheet. it was already 1/12th outdated. so i demanded i receive an 8.3% discount (no i didn't) then stormed out empty handed (also not true, i bought some socks). point is, the year of the monkey is already flying by.
the first month of the year had some noteworthy moments: i baked some cookies, bought a large houseplant, read a few fantastic books, saw a couple great concerts. friends visited! i skied in 3 different states, most recently, last weekend in montana with my parents. we visited the snowy town of whitefish and skied big mountain, where they met. more on that later.
oh! and january was also the month i fell truly, madly, deeply in love with ben higgins — but me and everyone else, right?
and amidst all of the happenings and activity (confirming i really do need that desk calendar!! and a desk!!), this past month also was one of routine: back at work after the holidays, finding some time to run, cooking semi-real meals, relaxing in the in-between moments. so it was a good month for a constant stream of music — especially so on a 15 hour train ride to montana. oof.
so because i'm self-centered and also because there's a cool playlist embed feature on this website, i put together a quick playlist of some of songs i was playing all month long. some are new, some are old, some have meaning and some just have a good beat. i saw grizfolk and max frost in concert last month and have had them on repeat ever since. st. lucia works any time of year. and cold cold man just seemed fitting for january... even though it was far from frigid in seattle.
that's all for now. hope you are all off to a great start to 2016, enjoying the days, and doing all of the fun things. also if you haven't already sent out your christmas thank-yous, you're too late and should hope people forgot. better luck next year.
